The centre has been operating since 1978. The Dominican Sisters are working in this Day Care, and they are also the owners of the Day Care. The Dominican Sisters' Daycare provides a quality, inclusive child care program for children 19 months to 5 years of age. There are 16 children in one mixed age group. Our program is operated based on the philosophy that all the children deserve to be cared for in environments where their developmental needs are met and where their sense of self worth is respected and fostered. Our program includes special attention to ethics and moral values in a child's development and education and it provides opportunities for children to observe different cultures. It is open to fulfilling a variety of needs.
We believe that each child is very important, and needs our attention and respect. We know that each child is unique and develops at his/her own pace. We believe also that all children deserve quality Child Care. Quality Child Care is achieved when care is provided by knowledgeable, committed, sensitive and trained caregivers. Trained caregivers know that children are learning through play and experience, therefore they create a thoughtfully planned environment where children spend most of their time in self-directed and self-initiated activities. Trained caregivers also, create a good program which stimulates children's play and reaches out for new understanding and new experiences. We know that all children will regress or advance back and forth during many stages as they grow. Behaviour described for each developmental stage is typical for the age level, but is not restricted to the age; normal children may be advanced or behind in a particular skill. This program provides for, in co-operation with the family unit, the development of the whole child in the emotional, social, physical and intellectual spheres.
